An Introduction to Medway Campaign for Real Ale
Thursday 01st November 2007

Hello and welcome to Medway Camra (Campaign for Real Ale). We are the Medway branch of a National group, campaigning for the preservation of Real Ale. Our branch covers an area from Cooling in the North to Burham in the south, Higham in the west to Rainham in the east. Medway Camra was formed in 1973 and currently has around 380 members.

We not only promote Real Ales, but also support local pubs selling them, as well as traditional Ciders and Perries. Every year we vote on a selection of local pubs worthy of inclusion in Camra's Good Beer Guide. We currently have 14 pubs in the 2007 guide, where details of them can be found. So we promote the appreciation of traditional beers and support the public house as a focus of real ale and community life. But what else do we do? We also support breweries within out local boundaries who produce and sell traditional beers; in our case Nelson Brewing Company , located in Chatham's Historic Dockyard, details of which can be found here.

Our voice to the people of the Medway Towns is our quarterly magazine. Beer Belly. Now over 50 issues old, it is distributed to our pubs and a small number of clubs throughout the Medway Towns for you to take absolutely free!e current issue is available here to give you some idea of what we do and our activities.

Finally , if you want to become a member of Camra then there is a Direct Debit form and online sign up form here. If you already enjoy real ales and want to be a part of a National organisation dedicated to beer preservation for today and the future, why not join up and come along to one of our socials or meetings; you wont be disappointed.
